Community Building

United Ways across Kentucky bring diverse people and resources together to address the most urgent issues their communities face. Through unique partnerships and approaches, United Ways mobilize resources beyond the dollars that are pledged through their fund-raising efforts. Community partners often include schools, government policy makers, businesses, organized labor, financial institutions, voluntary and neighborhood associations, community development corporations, and faith-based organizations.

United Ways' Community Impact agendas focus their work in communities.  Priorities are set by caring individuals representing all parts of our communities, including those directly affected by the agenda, and community-based organizations all dedicated to making a difference in the lives of children, families, and neighborhoods. Because community impact agendas are determined at the local level, each United Way reflects the values and priorities of their community.  These are often referred to as focus, impact or goal areas.

Areas of emphasis that are most universal across the United Way system are helping children and youth succeed, strengthening and supporting families, promoting self-sufficiency, building vital and safe neighborhoods, and supporting vulnerable and aging populations. United Ways' strategies include identifying and building on community strengths and assets, funding programs and initiatives, advocating for public policy changes and collaborating with others in support of these and related issues every day.
