2-1-1 Advocacy in Kentucky

In late 2008, UWKY reinvigorated our long-standing effort to bring the 2-1-1 information and referral service to the entire state, and are proud to say that we brought together a partnership of government, private and non-profit leaders to address the matter. To that end, we began the process of rewriting the statewide plan, along with national 2-1-1 consultants, Kenn Allen and Tom Page, which was completed in early 2009. The plan was presented to the UWKY board of directors in May 2009 and to the Public Service Commission in July 2009. UWKY is currently exploring funding models to support the development.

For the millions of Americans needing help every day – from locating financial assistance during a family crisis, to finding adequate care for an aging parent, to searching for the highest-quality child care – 2-1-1 is an easy-to-remember number connecting them quickly to essential community resources.

The Calling for 2-1-1 Act [S.211/HR.211] is United Way of America's top legislative priority.
